Critical Thinking
This two-day Critical Thinking training (in 10 parts), developed by Dr. Julia Jean-François, Co-Director of the Family Center at Sunset Park (Brooklyn), and Casey Family Programs, emphasizes a family-centered approach to child welfare work and was presented as part of the current DCF/FSS of North Florida Foster Care Redesign initiative (www.fostercareredesign.org). The first day features a series of scenarios role-played by class volunteers, designed to reinforce family-centered casework practice. Dr. Jean-Francois uses an effective "cut and rewind" technique in the midst of these role-plays in order to allow the class to discuss what they're observing and to suggest alternative approaches when the role-play resumes. The second day (convened approximately one month later) reunites the class, comprised mostly of supervisors, to assess early results of their implementation of concepts learned in the first session.
