National Deaf Awareness Month

The purpose of Deaf Awareness Month is to increase awareness of deaf/hard of hearing issues, people, and culture. People who are deaf have severe to profound hearing loss and must rely on a visual mode of communication though they may be able to hear some sounds with hearing aids. A person who is hard of hearing has a partial hearing loss and may be able to communicate adequately in a one-on-one situation in quiet surroundings. There are many ways families and professionals can support deaf/hard of hearing children.
