Disaster Preparedness


Yesterday, Governor Rick Scott issued Executive Order 17-235 declaring a state of emergency for all 67 counties within the State of Florida in response to Hurricane Irma - a major Category 5 storm approaching Florida. All Florida residents and visitors should ensure they have a plan in place to keep their families, loved ones, clients and property safe well before a disaster strikes. Below are some useful resources.

Hurricane Websites:


National Hurricane Center

  • Maintains a continuous watch on tropical systems over the Atlantic, Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico and eastern Pacific.


Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)

  • Coordinates response to disasters occuring within the United States.


Florida Emergency Management

  • Prepares for disasters within Florida, and helps in the recovery process.


National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)

  • Federal agency focused on the conditions of the oceans and atmosphere. Provides information and resources for dealing with hurricanes.

National Webinar: Family Leaders Learning Community: Supporting Fathers, Wednesday, September 6, 2017, 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM (Eastern)

This webinar is hosted by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

Fathers also have a critical role in behavioral health, and for this reason the Family Leaders Learning Community (LC) is hosting a webinar to highlight the needs of fathers and unique outreach programs to support fathers.

2017 Human Trafficking Summit,
October 2, 2017, Rosen Centre Hotel, Orlando, FL


Florida’s Human Trafficking Summit brings together local, state and national leaders working to eradicate all forms of trafficking. The one-day Summit will bring together over 500 attendees from areas covering law enforcement, service providers, survivors, healthcare professionals, educators, legislators and community leaders. Throughout the day, attendees will participate in targeted breakout sessions, workshops and training opportunities.
